So I have a Weber kettle BBQ and I'm looking to add a gas grill or griddle (I won't call it a gas BBQ to avoid getting shot down!) for when I want to cook something quick outside in the week and don't have time to deal with the kettle.

Any recommendations on what I should get if I want to cook a quick steak or some fish after work without stinking the house out?

Thanks

If you want a plancha style I have this and it's great.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Buffalo-Outdoor-Gas-Gridd...

I mainly use it for smash burgers, according to my laser thermometer it gets to about 290c

Also highly recommend a weber go anywhere- I have one and use it much more than the kettle. Uses a lot less briquettes too.

I have a Weber Q alongside a Weber kettle. Is very versatile and good for midweeks meals. Would recommend it.

We've had several gas Broil Kings over the past three decades, all well made in Canada. They have been reliable and last a long time before we eventually replace with a similar type from the same brand. We purchased a new triple burner one about 3 years ago and use it almost daily in the summer months, never misses a beat.

We have the fold up Weber Traveller, works great for quick convenient outdoor cooking when we dont want to fire up the big Weber kettle

If you haven't then try a chimney starter first. Takes away all the hassle IMO.

This ^^^^^

I often cook directly on the chimney starter if I'm just doing myself a steak (just throw a cake rack on the top of it)

If you haven't already, snip a few of the cake rack bars and bend them to run down the inside of the chimney, and then the rack is properly located and can't/won't slip.

IME you're just replacing cleaning ash up with cleaning fat up which is worse.

Depending on power availability, left field thought.,,

I’ll be using one to complement the Weber in the outdoor kitchen this year.

Can you get them with a fat catcher?

How far is your outdoor kitchen from your indoor hob?

I've used a portable induction hob for searing steak outdoors, to great effect.

Also, the Weber Go Anywhere comes in a gas version, also a handy tool.

Thanks guys. I’m leaning towards a broil king or napoleon with infra red side burner if anyone has experiences of either? Thanks for the Broil King recommendation above. I had never heard of them.

I quite like the convenience of a gas bbq, but not sure if it's what I'd want... I quite like the smoky essence of simple charcoal bbq, and the option to add smoke chips - is this feasible with gas? Or is it simply all about the sear and char?

Yes.
Make sure you get a gasser with a lid and chuck this in full of chips/chunks/pellets.

Or you can wrap said wood in a foil pouch and poke a few holes in it.

We have a broilking, had it for 5 year and use it all year round. Had a lifetime guarantee on the tub and 15 years on the burners, great 4 burner bbq.
