Just cleared a garden, best weedkiller?
Discussion
Hi, as title. Just cleared a garden, it's back to the soil now, but it's pretty clear there are still roots and signs of unwanted life that are going to cause havoc if untreated. We think the bulk of the problem will be what's left of the laurel and ivy.
Can anyone recommend a product that will cause this problem to go away and not come back?

Whats going on top of the now bare soil?
If gravel etc just lay weed membrane all over before laying your top dressing.
Hi, we re initially going to try it with chipped bark. Not my first choice, but there are two women involved who don t want to listen to opinions, just to tell others theirs! If gravel etc just lay weed membrane all over before laying your top dressing.
One being my wife, the other, her mother.

The usual weed killers work on the growing plants so it won't work on bare soil and anything that affects the soil will stop all growth for a long period.
Yes. Usual sequence should be to spray/kill everything then to clear it after it dies off.Point spraying anything that starts to grow is the only thing left, some sort of glyphosate will do it but that takes a while to work.

Don't forget there are stronger mixes than 360. If you're watering it down to regular 7g strength then all you care about is g/litre/£ and you might find 480 or others are better value. Also check the specs for rain resistance etc. etc, there's lots of variants.
Bearing in mind a 5l bottle of the good stuff will treat something like a hectare and 10ml neat will kill a substantial tree it goes a long long way. You're looking at the equivalent of hundreds of litres of the usual garden mix.
As previously alluded to, spraying glyphosate onto bare soil will achieve nothing - it needs to be sprayed onto leaves.
Do you want to grow anything else there? That will determine what you do next.
One useful thing would be to rake it over now and remove all the bits of root etc so they won't be left to regrow.
