How to clean velvet sofa

I've had this sofology sofa for a few years, I think it's a velvet/velour material. It could do with a clean. What is the best machine to use? Wet or steam? I'm imaging wet could ruin the material? Any advice from any carpet or upholstery folk. Thanks.

Could be alcantara. If so it’s pretty robust to the usual cleaning methods.
