How many flowers and what type.
Discussion
Hi, I've got another gardening question. The raised planters I'm about to stain will shortly need filling with flowers, the size of them is about 2.4Mx0.6M and there is two of them, I also want to put some flowers in a raised border that's about 5M long in front of some bushes.
Can someone advise on what type and maybe where from etc etc, I've looked at loads of plants/flowers on line and you seem to get lots of them for next to nothing at some places and others its about £30 for one plant. Ideally I would like stuff to grow every year - do I plant some bulbs as well as flowers?
It would be nice if they looked something like this but I'll bet that £60 doesn't get you much.

What you choose is personal preference, amd thats alot of space to fill and you won't get much at all for £60.
Ive just filled an area about half of what youve mentioned and it cost me in excess of £400 for plants alone (evergreen shrubs).
I suggest buy on sight from a reputable garden centre rather than online. And avoid supermarket plants that you see on trollys/racks at the door way, generally the quality it poor and choice is very limited.
I also suggest planning carefully, taking your time to think how they will grow and buying what you like, not whats on offer.

Its only about 3sqm of soil plus a linear run of 5m infront of some bushes, cant be that bad can it?
Canr i just throw a few packets of seeds down, it worked for the grass.
Cause you can, let them fight for the right to flower! It won't be instant though. Go for perennials and annuals, any that you like the look of. If you choose any roses, keep them far apart to help them establish.Canr i just throw a few packets of seeds down, it worked for the grass.

It's worth remembering that planting a garden isn't like furnishing a room. If it was, after a couple of years you'd have 27 chairs but the sofa would have disappeared... plants grow and they compete. So firstly, leave some space around the new plants for them to grow into, and secondly, be prepared that some will thrive and others die, if left unassisted. In this respect take note of sun/shade (insolation), drainage/soil type - because different plants like different things and so if you choose plants which suited to your garden they're more likely to do well.Ive just filled an area about half of what youve mentioned and it cost me in excess of £400 for plants alone (evergreen shrubs).
