Cutting porcelain tile slab

Annoyingly I need to cut just 1cm off a slab. I'll need to use a track, but will any circular saw with a tile blade work or am I best to get a specific tool. What do the professionals use? I need a dead dead straight cut. I have 14 tiles to cut.

Wet bridge saw is the ideal tool, porcelain slabs take a lot of cutting. Dry cutting doesn't do the blade any good and the load & dust will kill most regular circular saws.

Wet bridge saw is the dog bks, you could hire one.

If you already own a circular track saw you could get a diamond blade for the circular saw, and set up some apparatus to wet the tile/blade during cutting, or even cut it dry if you went slowly.

If you have an angle grinder then you could clamp a wooden baton to the tile and cut down that, dry or wet, with the appropriate blade.


It depends on how accurate or neat you need the cut to be, how steady your hand is, what the budget is, what tools you own, and how big the tiles are. The above suggestions are in descending order of neatness/accuracy, but increasing order of cheapness.

We had about 120sqm of the stuff laid last year, the guys used an angle grinder with a diamond wheel and then gave the edges a smooth off with some kind of soft sanding pad that left a really nice finish.

Last year I tiles my bathroom, 1200 x 600 tiles.
Was hard going using angle grinder with the right blades. Even drilling holes was a nightmare.

When I bought them, the tile place suggested getting a man in, with the right kit, to just do the cuts. Say a days work.

You should be able to pick up a wet bridge saw for £75 to £100 on marketplace. It's like a knife through butter. Perfect cut 600mm in 60 seconds. Don't bother dry
