How to reduce cistern fill noise?

I recently replaced the fill valve and syphon in my cistern after cleaning it out.

Everything is working fine now, though I'm assuming since it's a new valve, the water is flowing through it slightly better than the old one. That's good as it refills the tank quicker. However, it seems to be a lot more noisy on filling as a result.

Is there anything I can do to reduce the noise?

I'm thinking a piece of non-corrosive metal bent at an acute angle, stuck half way up the the inside of the cistern wall to 'cushion' the flow of incoming water may help. Though, I'm wondering if there are any more professional, less DIY solutions available?

A wick is certainly a good idea but if you want it super silent, a length of clear hose attached to the filler tap/nossle that is just short of the bottom of the cistern would be a cheap and easy option

Don't even need a hose. A small poly bag will do. Poke a hole in the bottom of the bag, place it over/around the nozzle and secure it with a small cable tie. It needs to lie on the water surface where it will float so you won't have back-syphon worries.
I have this arrangement in one of our lavatories and it's pretty quiet. Been there about ten years now.
