A quick google (mainly to satisfy my own curiosity) returned this:
Can I use charcoal in my fire pit?
You may be tempted to reach for some charcoal to intensify the blaze of your signature secondary burn— after all, you really want to put on a show when it’s your turn to host your friends and family. We discourage you from burning charcoal in your fire pit.
Charcoal burns differently than wood. Our fire pits are designed to breathe and enhance the experience with wood. Charcoal fills the fire pit and suffocates it. It also burns much hotter than wood which could damage the pit and/or damage surfaces underneath the pit even when a stand is used.
Use of chemical accelerants in your Solo Stove will be damaging to the performance and product over time.
Want to use charcoal? Check out our Cookout Kit, that includes a charcoal adapter - https://solostove.com/en-us/p/cookout-kit?sku=SSTA...

Im not a huge fan of these fire pits, had a couple and I feel that everything and everyone stinks of smoke. And the smokeless logs are pricey.
We used electric garden heaters now, more efficient, dont smell and easier to direct the heat where its wanted. Id suggest those over logs pit.
Firepit is undoubtedly nicer on the eye though.

I have a Solo Stove Bonfire, purchased a couple of years ago.
Having had open bowl/basket type fire pits in the past I would say the SS is an upgrade.
It smokes for the first 5-10 mins but once up to temp its smokeless, so none of the smoke in the eyes/on clothes issues you get with an open pit.
I mainly burn seasoned hardwood, basically the stuff to big or too knotty to chop up for my log burner, but its worth noting that most SS models will also burn wood pellets (i.e. wood Cat litter).
I also have the heat deflector for mine which to pretty effective, but does make loading logs on a bit tricky, and its not cheap.
There are a few cheaper copies of the Solo Stove on the market, but I have no experience of if they work as well.

Haad 2, both crap - everyone stinks of smoke and you can't get away from it...
Even drilled holes into the bottom of one and used an old open fire grate I meant to throw away; made it better, but still smoked a lot
Got a proper clay chiminea and never looked back; sits on its own stand, seasoned well; sand in the bottom and burn softwood and hardwood logs on that; zero issues and zero smoke
Would highly recommend
Had ours years now and you don't seem to see them any more; it's very similar to this, but the stand is twice the height, with a shelf lower down for wood etc

Outs came with a grate for the inside too, to cook over the coals and its great. Superb for steaks or jacket spuds etc
