Hyundai petrol rotavator or something else?

Hi All

I have a small allotment and purchased what seemed like a solid petrol rotavator for £40 from a chap who was packing up his plot. It worked brilliantly until it snapped low down(corrosion around a weld)and is not repairable.

So, I m seeing quite a few Hondas locally- all second hand but look fine and about £200 - they come with the same risk as the last one though.

Or I ve seen a few Hyundai and Webb models for about £250 ish - new. I know nothing about either.

Any experiences welcome.

I can't claim to be an expert, but I bought a Mountfield tiller off Facebook last year that was practically brand new, used it on my rear garden before turf and sold it for the same price I paid. It worked really well, felt strong, started first pull every time. I guess they're all similar, not much to go wrong unless bits starts falling off I suppose.

I think I paid around £125 for it, looks like prices have risen for some reason.

They are all over the place. I turned down a mint mountfield for £50 when I bought my last one because it was further away. I’m not sure some people know what they are worth and many seem to start high and then drop dramatically because demand isn’t that high or seasonally mixed.

If you can get hold of an old (1970/80s) Wolseley Merry Tiller (Major) on e-bay cheap and do it up ... a new 6.5 hp Briggs Stratton engine for about £250
Sold as a rock , much better than the modern day ones
I did this one up with an original engine , it was too good to use , so I bought a 2nd on ebay and did that up aswell with a 6.5 hp engine
The old Howard Gems are very good too





P.S. There is a world of difference between a tiller and a rotavator ... A tiller tills (makes the surface fine without depth ) , a rotavator digs (down to a foot or so) My experience with all the Honda ones is that they are tillers.
I've got a Honda F100 tiller, I put a new engine on it and now the gearbox has gone. So this year I've bought an EGO tiller which complements the rest of my EGO battery kit and uses my lawnmower batteries.
