I'd like to lay a porcelain patio just under the ledge of my bifold doors. This would be at dpm level. Is there a solution please.

You could run an ACO drain at DPC level and run it to a nearby drain. Photos will help. Is it a step up to the bi-folds you want to put in?

Even ACO drains aren’t the ideal solution as half the rain will still end up hitting the grating and splashing back up rather than going into the drain.

It’s less of an issue on modern housing with cavity construction providing the cavity hasn’t been bridged during construction but on older properties there’s still potential for damp ingress to the inside of the DPC isn’t above ground level.

Is that really the case? I was of the understanding it was an urban myth having the gravel strips at the edge of patio being to prevent splashback.. it was just a house builder quick bodge to prevent having to finish patio and path edges properly spun into a benefit.

Lower down the house you go... any slight bit of wind and that wall is getting wet anyway.

Any if it is the case.. angle a narrow run of slabs away from the house before the ACO, ie Wall.. 100mm of slab with noticeable fall/deflection.. then ACO then patio. Wouldn't even look wrong.

How does that work with back filling with hardcore. Won't the house bricks be taking in damp.

Il take a picture now...
For context I tried using these jouplast stilts and I'm not happy with them. There is about 3" under the slab and it's mot right now.

Does the atco drain go to the floor, then the MOT butts up against this. Sorry for my ignorance. I will most likely get someone in to lay the slabs but I'm happy to do some graft and cart some MOT etc in.

For your aco installation...

Excavate deeper than rest of patio base
Geotextile membrane
100mm type 1
50mm + concrete
Aco
Then haunch the concrete around the aco

Then more type 1 to bring up to 100mm required for the rest of the patio.

Personally.. because it looks much nicer, avoid the plastic aco channel and go for their raindrain cast iron offering.

Here’s mine that I did last year / still working on…

Can see finished Aco level surrounding house

Not an expert, but cant you move them a few inches away from the wall and have a french drain, ie gravel, in the gap, its how my patio was done, i used white gravel, and it looks good.

I'm guessing I could just put a thin aco drain in (this one below is 3inch deep so would be ideal. They look smart.
Would the drain even need to be connected as the patio slopes away from the house. The aco is, for me, to deal with dpm issue.

Interested to see the suggestions on this thread. I have a conservatory base against the wall below a patio door that I need to do something about.

OP - before you buy it, just checking that you've seen the drain above is 3cm deep, not 3 inch as you describe.

Yes I noticed the 3cm when I posted, they have 8cm which is 3"!
I'll prob just go to selco or Travis to get it as I don't trust Amazon.
