I let my rear yard get out of hand.

10 years ago I had it the grass dug out and replaced with several tons of gravel.

Getting loads of weeds around the edges, so I have strimmed away all the lower parts so I now have open access to the area and soil below the weeds.

no pets or other plants to worry about, I just want best weedkiller to 'moderate' the weeds future growth.

I have all the major local chains near me like B&Q and Wicks

  • EDIT to be realistic on reducing weeds future growth, apparently the mass deployment of Chemical and Nuclear weapons + Genghis Khans hordes are not allowed when killing weeds, who would have thunk it wink

The only real way to have a "long lasting" weed killer is to poison the soil so nothing can grow in it; such things have mostly been banned for fairly obvious reasons!

The only stuff you can get at the sheds or garden centers is Glyphosate based so not a long term solution. Products like Paradise work but I think they may be hard to get these days, & it's expensive:

Of course there is always PH's favourite fire retardant, ammonium sulphamate (not sulphate!):

To eliminate them as you want you need a sealed surface that the roots can't take a hold in. The majority of weeds don't appear from underground, they are seeds that are blown in, settle in corners or cracks and take root. A blowtorch would achieve the same thing as weedkiller and is more fun.

How depressing. Why not lean into it and get some low maintenance shrubs and climbers in around the edges to allow in some wildlife instead of nuking everything with weed killer? It need not take a huge amount of effort and will look miles better

I have a 5ltr container of this in the shed; I just dilute to the recommended level in a weedsprayer and apply whenever required. So far it has lasted 3 years and I’ve used maybe 10% of it.

Even glyphosate is getting harder to find at garden centres, a lot of what's on the shelves is acetic acid or pelargonic acid based - they don't kill the plants, they just scorch the leaves they're sprayed on, so about as effective as strimming, picking, or blowtorching. Works in hours, but the weeds are back in weeks.
