Just after a sanity check really, my neighbour wants fibre broadband and they can't get it up the drive as there is a blockage so want to dig two great big bloody holes.

The drive is pristine tarmac and I don't really want it looking like the council have come along and fixed a couple of pot holes, the neighbour is a bit miffed at this and wants me to sign a document to allow them to dig up the drive.

He's now claiming as it's a utility they have a right to dig up the driveway which is obviously bullst

Am I being a moaning old git or should I stick to my guns, are they able to make it look like there wasn't a big bloody hole right in the middle of the drive?

Cheers.

Knowing what a mess they make when digging roads up there is absolutely no way on planet earth I would let them dig up my driveway

What is the "blockage" and why can't they go around it?

You can’t patch tarmac without it looking st.
If he wants to dig it up he has to pay to re-do the whole lot.

They think the conduit has collapsed.

A while back where we used to live, there was some building work going on and the builders damaged the edge of a neighbours driveway. They replaced a strip about 3ft x 1ft and it stuck out like a sore thumb.

The builders ended up replacing the whole driveway. I wouldn’t allow holes to be dug.

Can’t they dig it in around the edge, somewhere else, not the tarmac bit!
Or if under 10m, they could use a mole.

Do you have fibre broad band to your house OP?
If not why not get the channel dug at the same time as your neighbour even if you are not using yet.
Do you want to alter the shape of fhe drive as if its all being redobe now would be the time to do it.
The tarmac would need to be fully reinstated to look right.

If the duct is on the shared driveway, then it could be a main duct that would feed both houses, just be aware that if it is, if anything happens to your broadband cable, then they wouldn't be able to replace it without fixing the main duct, and unless you could then get soneone to feed you overhead, you wouldn't be able to get anyone to provide you with broadband without digging up. So not allowing them to fix it now, could come back and bite you, as if his is working and yours isn't, then he could refuse to let them do it for you.

If they can feed a wire down surely they can feed a camera down to be sure of the problem.

When I signed up for Airband, they found a blockage on next door's drive and just dug it up! The neighbours didn't have a choice.

I have my own duct as my house on on the road so enjoy fibre broadband, probably pisses the neighbour off no end hehe

I'll see if they have other ways like the mole mentioned, in no way do I want my albeit shared drive to look like a badly maintained pub car park.

We can’t get FTTP as the street ducts are collapsed, and they can’t get the camera past the blockages in either direction.

I'm imagining the drive goes all the way to the house. Perhaps it doesn't.

Is there a front garden? Easier to patch in a lawn.

Do you have fibre in the area? They just use already installed BT cables.

would it be possible to go round an outer perimeter and then put a block paviour in as a border? will cost a bit more obviously but will look decent when done. solves the issue.

why can't it be moled underground? cost I suppose for the utility company.

Thing is some people like yourself want a decent looking property, others just dont give a st.
