Washer waste

Moved into my first place over last few days and washer waste pipe releases into the sink drain pipe, all connected fine, odd little upwards pipe thoughwith a jubilee clip.. NO bespoke waste pipe for washer drain.

But on the other side of the sink drain pipe is an open pipe similar diameter with a thread at the end, presumably for another appliance, I presume I can cap this, is about 26 - 28 mm?

This is how mine is set up. The other will be for a dishwasher (that's what we use it for anyway) and yes, you can cap the open one.

You'll need to cap it before you run a washer cycle! Probably before you even run the kitchen sink tap, is it not pouring out?

We found that out the hard way when we moved in to our place last year. Previous owners had just disconnected the dishwasher but no cap on the opening. Thankfully it was a stty old kitchen so a bit more water ingress made no difference, but it's something I'll always double check in future.

Only been there a short time and luckily the dishwasher vent/outlet is 45 degrees upright, the washer outlet conversely is down pointing which seems a bit weird. I will try and get a cap tonight, not done a wash yet obviously.

Are you sure it's open? Often they are blanked off and need to be opened up for use. Take off the spout and check.

Good shout, it looks used, but i can swivel it round and see fir both actually.

Yes normally they are capped so just undo the nut and take the connector off and you should see a blue or similar cap pushed in.

I did buy one, it was too big, I have to get the whole spigot with the blue end cap in it. Hope there is space or might need to buy a whole single waste pipe thingy

Now I really buggered it up, in trying to turn everything to make it easier to fit, I was removing the drain etc and broke the condensate pipe from the boiler I think.

So plumber it is I'm afraid. Too late last night to ring anyone.Sod it.
