So I've just has my solar and battery installation finished yesterday. 6kw array / inverter and 10kw batteries.
Good install, right from the survey through to the actual installation. company seemed very professional. However the handover of information at the end felt poor.
Basically it was 'here is the app, it looks after itself, get on with it'. I had lots of questions which the guys who commissioned the install didn't seem to know the answers, or couldn't be bothered with.
So one of my main questions was how to set up the export of excess energy back to the grid. Again, all I got from them was a muffled reply that I'll get stuff through the post.
So what is the actual process? I see today after use and charging the batteries it exported 5.4kw to the grid. Will I see any payment for that, or is it lost until I actually sign up to a SEG tariff.
I spoke to EON my provider a couple of weeks ago and they said the SEG tariff isn't tied to my normal tariff with them and I could sign up separately with another company for export. Is that right or even a good idea?

Your provider is right, import and export can be seperate.
Sometimes companies may link the two for a better rate. You are best googling or asking an LLM for a view on the best rate tbh.
You’ll likely need the paperwork signing off on your install from the local network, plus MCS paperwork in the signup process of the export tariff supplier/receiver, but each one will have a different process. I suggest identifying who you want to go with and asking their advice

Correct, export can be to a different company than import.I'm exporting to Scottish Power for 6p/kWh (used to be 12p last year grrr), haven't bothered shopping around as the return is pitiful - grand total of £20 last quarter for my 2kW panels.

As far as I can tell Eon is paying 6p/kw for general export customers, which seems about on par with most others at the moment.
I assume all the relevant documents I need to submit will come from the installation company?
So until I get the export tariff sorted I guess im not getting paid for the the energy going back to the grid?
