Half A Snake?

Woke up this morning to this on the path in the back garden. Any idea what it is? I think it's a grass snake but no idea how it got there? At first I thought it looked fake but there were plenty of flies around it

We have 2 cats but never have I seen them bring something like this, rats, mice, birds etc but never this

Looks like you nailed it in the title. I too would say that was half a snake, though its hard to find the hips on a snake, so it's possible it's 2/3rds?

Don't snakes shed their skins as they grow?

Is it just the outer of a snake or is it filled with the remains of a snake?

That isn't a shed skin... My guess is strimmed/mowed in half then picked up by a cat/bird and left on the path?

Plenty of things prey on snakes.

It does not look like a big grass snake, my guess would be bird of prey but also badgers and foxes will eat grass snakes. Chances are one had half its dinner then dropped the last bit for one reason or another.
