Boiler query

Have recently moved into a terraced property.

Fairly new combi Worcestor boiler. Works fine. Needed a bit of pressure when I moved in, but found out how to do it and sorted that.

But have noticed it sort of activates every half hour or so for a few seconds then stops, is this normal? I presume so.

Is this necessary, is it switch on/off able? Also, if I go away is it worth turning the boiler off completely to save electricity? Can that cause issues?

Does it trigger when something like the dishwasher/washing machine/toilet cistern, specifically when the valve closes?

If so this is water hammer triggering the hot water flow valve.

Highly likely it has the 'pre-heat' function turned on.
Once you've identified the exact model, a quick Google or youtube search will show you how to turn it off.
You're looking to put it into 'ECO' mode.
This function has no effect on the heating, it is purely a hot water function, 'pre-heat' is suppose to reduce the delay to the hot tap.

This, unless it’s in Eco mode it will cycle to reduce the time for hot water.

It does not trigger when anything is used no, yes at times it will trigger if I use the hot water tap, that makes sense.

It does have ECO mode, but I have to work out how to turn off this pre heat thing I think

It's doing a little pre-heat of the hot water heat exchanger in the boiler every 30 mins or so, with the idea that when you turn on a tap it gives you hot water quicker.

To turn this off you press and light the ECO button. Doesn't really make much difference to the speed of hot water delivery.

(It would be a lot clearer if it just said "Pre Heat Off", rather than turning something on to turn something off !)

If you have turned 'pre-heat' off, then that action is turning 'ECO' mode on. It's just a toggle between the two. It is one or the other.

Yes, It was turned on, and since has stopped the start up every half hour or so.

To clarify : ECO mode (light on) means pre heat off. As I mentioned it would be a lot clearer if the button actually said pre heat off!

It would, my old boiler had that, this one just says as you say pre heat on of off.

As I say, this place is a gem for little things like this. Thanks
