I watched that as well.

I can just imagine the sort of person who would do that even the type of car that he probably drives.

I’m going with a knackered old Mitsubishi Shogun or possibly a 90s Jeep Grand Cherokee.

This thread has taken the correct turn for a Pistonheads discussion! biggrin

Back to the topic though, what a horrific thing to have to deal with, where do you even begin with that!?

Goodness me. The composure and grace of the lady in that video is quite something given the circumstances.

It would have been better if he had fundamentally damaged her side of the house. Assuming properly insured atleast they'd knock it down and rebuild it.

Not sure how they proceed from there and get to a satisfactory outcome.

Oh and a smokey Zafira VXR.

If the owner of the remaining house has a mortgage, I wonder what their lender thinks of this? As they have an interest in the property, perhaps they ought to be acting with some kind of urgency? I expect the owner has already thought of this of course, it would be very interesting to follow this case.

Seems to be an increasing number of issues where developments and demolitions, plus illegal dumping is taking place without planning permission. Planning authorities have been hollowed out and enforcement, if it happens, takes an age.

The Appeals system is likewise glacially slow.

Legal system is toothless and there is no criminal act, so police can't step in.

Good example of this lawlessness here.

We can argue austerity and all that, but it remains a real problem - councils are overwhelmed with workload and it is only going to get worse.

I suspect the intention is to force her our, build some mullioned monstrosity with stone lions on the gates. 10 year old Mercedes E Class with chav plate.

I was gonna say, I'd be erring towards getting their house somehow 'written off' and claiming on their buildings insurance - and getting the hell out of there!

It does highlight some interesting points about semi detached properties - on a commercial level you see this sort of thing quite often.

On the opposite side of the coin - I have recently bought the yard next to my house and have looked into getting PP into building a small house on the boundary. This would turn the neighbouring end terrace property into a mid terrace, which I doubt the neighbour would be very happy about.

There should be a way of sequestrating that land and gifting it to the neighbour. Absolute s

Party Wall Act toothless?

We has a similar house in Derby and the party wall was a single brick thick.

Terrible situation for her.

I thought I was going to see something similar on my street a few years ago. It's a similar 30s estate and the owner of an end terrace had a loft conversion underway. They moved out and the cowboys ripped so much out the back wall started to drop.
BC stopped everything and they had to have surveyors assess for remediation. One outcome was the whole house to be pulled down.
Luckily another builder was hired and rebuilt the entire back of the house, including the new top storey.

With this lady's house, the party wall is most likely 9" solid block, no cavity so hence the damp.

Unable to confirm the perpetrator's car. I'm going for something like a Mitsubishi L200.

The most incredible part of this is supposedly the person who did the demolition has since sold the land! It’s hard to imagine someone would have bought it.
