Powering a wall mounted electric fire from a fused spur
Discussion
We moved into our current house a few months ago. Downstairs it’s all UFH from the heat pump. It does the job but I’m used a having a fire in the lounge so I’ve been looking at wall mounted electric ones and I’ve been really impressed with what’s available.
The builder has fitted a fused spur on the wall in the lounge for just this purpose I imagine but I’m struggling to see how I’m supposed to get the power cable to the spur (I presume I shouldn’t be able to see the cable afterwards). The spur faceplate is as good as flush so I guess I’m expected to get the power cable into the wall somehow?

If the fire has a cord, get the faceplate swapped for one with a cable exit.

Are you sure that there's not an outlet somewhere that's controlled by the fused spur?
I had the sparky fit exactly this in a house I just finished renovating - a fused spur switch neatly alongside a double socket toward the corner of the room then a single socket a few feet to the right, directly behind where the fire is.

No, it’s just sat on its own slightly offset from the middle of the room. I think it must be there so they can run the wiring for a fire to it and then if the householder chooses to fit one it has to be adapted as part of the install.I had the sparky fit exactly this in a house I just finished renovating - a fused spur switch neatly alongside a double socket toward the corner of the room then a single socket a few feet to the right, directly behind where the fire is.

The faceplate of the fused spur will have a knockout at the bottom to route the cable through. Usually has a cable grip above it.
The cable to the fire will be on show though.
That’s what I was expecting but when I examined it there was nothing. I think if I stick with that it is designed for the cable for the fire to be in the wall. Some of these fires just come with 3 pin plugs so I might replace the spur with a regular socket and then get a pot plant or something in front of it :-)The cable to the fire will be on show though.
