blown combi boiler
Discussion
A week ago, i put the heating on to take the chill off, and the boiler promptly blew up.
Ive been away all week, so am now only just getting around to getting things sorted.
Its a Viesmann Vitodens 100-W, an internal hose burst, which was the original failure, which then fried the control panel.
I have no records for the boiler, but i suspect its from around 2015.
At this point, a replacement may be the better option to go for rather than repair, and finding more things wrong.
What does a boiler cost these days?
11 rads, 1 bath.

Why not first get someone competent to diagnose the fault . Its not that old .
'Hose burst and got the controller wet and killed it' seems a fairly simple thing to diagnose. Seems a fairly simple thing to fix .

If you don’t fancy trying to fix it yourself you could get a fixed price repair from Viessmann or even British Gas.
Not everyone loves Viessmann but they’re supposed to last well with stainless steel heat exchangers and they have better modulation ratio than most other boilers which would suit a smaller heating system.

Best bang for buck is a Baxi, cheap, reliable, 7 or 10 year warranty. My mate runs a plumbing shop and sells 1000’s of them, probably 90% of his sales are Baxi. I had a Baxi in my last house for 15 years, it didn’t have a single fault in that time, I’ve just fitted one in my new house and have probably fitted 40 of them in my flips over the years.

Getting a plumber in to replace random stuff often works out dear, then something else fails next year. Or next month.
If you fix it yourself, it's more worthwhile, sometimes the only thing wrong might be one easily identified part, sometimes loads of parts are 'not quite perfect', so it will never run quite right, which may be putting more stress on things.
Fixed price repairs are worth looking into though.
It's a tough line to draw sometimes.

t ever built a truly awful boiler to own and work on. Dont get why there is any love for them at all. Up there in the quality stakes with ariston biasi and ferroli. Rip it out snd put a vaillant in.
