Can anyone recommend an oven cleaner that actually works ? When I were a lad, oven cleaner would take the skin off your hands and the hairs from the back of your throat. Now they are like maidens water, as my Mother says. The previous owner of our house took "self cleaning" rather too literally and I have some very stubborn crud to shift.

For me, it would probably to be to try stuff from the HG range.

The thing I use on the non-self-cleaning parts is the abrasive pastes you can get, Astonish or similar. Poundshops are the place to find that sort of thing smilehttps://astonish.co.uk/products/the-original-clean... They're essentially soap and sand.

DIY option - most oven cleaners contain caustic soda. Caustic soda is cheap but nasty.

HG is normally good stuff, but the oven cleaner doesn't seem up to it.

I had to clean some really caked on BBQ grease and food and Mrs BC gave me some oven cleaner that comes with plastic bags - you paint the gel on and then drop it into a plastic bag and leave it to work it's magic.

Was quite impressed by how well it worked I just left it all overnight - not quite as impressed at how slippery it made my skin!!!

If the link doesn't work it was "Oven Pride Deep Cleaning system"

That looks good. The racks are pretty clean actually, just a couple of baked on marks on the bottom of both ovens.

I've used this a few times, as you say the racks in the bag works brilliantly. (Tip, be careful not to nick the bag!)

The paint the rest on the oven as per instructions is still fairly effective. Way more effective than Mr Muscle etc anyway.

Curious if anyone can better it with first hand experience...

Mrs J gets these oven cleaning people in who claim to be environmentally friendly and good for the planet and yet the ovens are like new after just 38mins of the chaps majic potion.
He takes the racks out to his van and puts them in a bath of something, but the ovens themselves are like new .

what do they use ?

Those ovens look awesome. We have dual ovens side and once you have that, you can't go back. But quad ovens - I mean we are talking V12 engines here now!

However - and I know you know this - your clocks are not synchronised. It was the same on my old ovens. So despite being slightly financially embarrassed at the moment I recently replaced them with two new super duper, pyrolytically cleaning, air frying, mobile connected and rather expensive Bosch units.

Not only are they bloody brilliant at their main job of cooking food very well indeed, the added bonus is that they are wifi connected so both clocks are perfectly synced.

But back on topic, I have yet to use the pyrolytic cleaning function because I am worried the house will burn down, or at least that the freezer and fridge that flank the ovens will melt.

Another vote for the stuff that comes with a bag for shelves. So much better than other cleaners.

The only reason appliances need an internet connection.

Oven Pride is the stuff you need, usually cheap in Home Bargains etc. If that fails me I just get a professional oven cleaner company in, then it's back to 'the box with the bag'.
