I'm making a table that will be hinged to a wall and fold up vertically when not in use.

To support the front when it's in the down position I'll need two legs (eg wood about 60x 40mm) that fold down. I could use normal hinges but I'd rather have something that clicks into position - so if I accidentally kick a leg it doesn't collapse. Can anyone find suitable hinges? Ideally they'll be white and not too chunky.

Thanks, very interesting. They'd work, but would hold the top of the leg away from the table when closed, while I'd prefer a sleeker look. Is there a design that would fix to the side of the leg so it can fold flat? I thought of a window stay but not sure if it would work.

Thing that comes to mind for me is the locking folding things that hold cupboard doors out horizontally?

That could work - I think 'overcentre' is the key word. I wonder if they work under compression instead of tension?

I don't think that folds up on itself.

Thanks for the ideas so far; I'll come back tomorrow and make a decision smile

make a shallow frame for the top to fold into and use these

You can bin off any need for legs then too

I think that the chance of collapsing the table, by kicking a leg, particularly if there are two, is very small. The irritation of having to unclick two legs every time you park the table would be immense.
