I’m thinking of buying a mid level mobile battery storage pack - circa £500. Jackery units seem decent, anyone got something similar they’d care to share their experiences of or recommend an alternative product?

I have been looking on Amazon and similar where you can look at price history. They have increased in price about 40 percent in the last 10 days. I am going to wait until the price comes down if we are not all dead in a few months .
It's toilet paper syndrome I believe.

Only snag is they have sold out.

They're just a lithium battery, a charger, an MPPT controller and an inverter packaged nicely. You could achieve the same for a fraction of the price if you don't mind carrying out a bit of wiring.

Have a look at Facebook marketplace. There are loads on there at a fraction of the original price.

I've been thinking about getting one of these to power my home office, and charge overnight. Perhaps it's not worth it. I need to do some sums, the first step is work out how much I use during the day in the office.

Two monitors, a laptop (sometimes two, and then a little bit of headset / phone charging.

With daytime electricity at 28p and overnight at 8.5p, I'll have to see whether it's worth it. Probably not.

I should probably save my money and get a full solar and battery installation sorted.

I've had an Ecoflow for a few years. Used for road trips and camping for running the fridge and keeping things powered

£410. I paid £400 a few months ago.

Enough to charge my eMTB 1x5 times when at bike parks.

Great bits of kit. This one costs a bit less than Ecoflow and Bluetti, but has a really nice interface and app, though the app to me is a novelty, as once used once, you are really not that interested as the units display is plenty for most needs.

The 7 year warranty is the real key selling point.

I've got two, both Jackery.

A Jackery 240 which is small, lightweight, but gets you mains electricity for small loads anywhere you wish. LED floodlight under the loft, powering my summer hous lights and Alexa, heated throw when there's no mains socket nearby, water pump to empty a a bit of flooded footings... Had it a few years, very useul, I think it cost about £300 originally.

I also have the 1000 v2. We do get occasional power cuts, and this one is big and heavy. Peak output is about 1500W so it will power a coffee pod machine, a fridge, a freezer, my office PC and monitoes etc..... £419.00 a few weeks ago.

I keep the 240 topped up with an old solar panel I have lying around, the 1000 charges overnight on Octopus Go. Then I drop it to about 95% with a couple of coffees in the morning to save it being at 100% all day. (You can set this in the app if you wish).

Both can charge from a car battery, that's how you'd top them up in a power cut, and from solar or mains.

Regardless of the latest doomsday stuff I think they're just very useful, and you could DIY cheaper but I couldn't be bothered.

I've got a Jackery 2000 v2. Very handy when off-grid in the motorhome (I've rigged up a cable so can power the van from the Jackery inside). Couple of solar panels either in the windscreen or outside will put 'some' charge back in, as will the 12v supply when the engine is running.
This is actually my second, as the first wasn't beefy enough to power the air fryer!

Mate of mine has a small-mid size Bluetti he uses for a range of things including weekends away at rallies in his living van, and at one point to run car changer when is alternator packed up.

He also has a much larger Aeriy, i think the 3600w P310 which he used to power his narrowboat, including a 240v Riello presure jet burner.

Then also has a "Maxpeedingrods MXR3200" amazon spec genny which he charges it from in winter when the solar isnt keeping up.

Ive never heard him say a bad thing about any of it.

As said, you could put a system together from components, Fogstar battery and a Victron MultiPlus-II, but ita a convenient package and not a bad price for it.

What are you trying to run from it?

Any of these devices will be hammered if you start running 240v devices in a storm/disaster scenario. Don't. Most efficient is to stay low voltage e.g. 12v or USB-C range.

From that POV, if you're looking at charging phones etc, the easiest approach is a few good-quality 20,000mAh power banks, and a decent 12v lighter socket USB adapter for the car.

But if you want to be able to run a coffee machine a couple of times in a short power-cut, or camping, then they'll do that.

I have a Bluetti device, which runs essential 12v networking/internet gear. Works pretty well as a big easy-to-use battery. It charges nightly on off-peak power using a wifi plug, so we always have ~48 hrs of internet backup.

I’ve got an ecoflow and it’s a great bit of kit, it’s an older model now but I think the equivalent is the delta 3. Was about £1600.

I take it in my camper, used it on building sites when there’s not been power and use it to power my diesel heater in my garage.
Lasts forever and if you get a solar panel with it your sorted for the apocalypse.

I got the pro model for £367 from Leco-energy with the warranty but that seems to be gone. The app was terrible but the new update has made it much quicker. The problem is it only shows your solar generation from the last 24 hours.
