Hi we received our granite slabs today 900x600 silver grey and every single one (60 in total) has a straight line scratch the full 900mm length . Looks to me like someone had stacked the rough edge to the smooth . Now I am in talks with the stone company what s the best solution? Now I am sure some of the scratching can be dealt with but 60 tiles x 900mm?

Better just to start from scratch.

Love the pun , but to save all the Agro of sending back and hope the next lot are better is there another way, light scratches can be removed but the honed surface is compromised and it’s the 54m in length lol

I think I have been a bit thick , research is telling me the rough side (flamed) is facing and the smooth (sawn) which scratched goes against the mortar. I always thought it was smooth side up like honed sandstone!

have some Brazilian slate , if you want to make it pop , mix boiled linseed oil with white spirit 50/50 and wipe over the surface , it will reveal the depthy and hide any imperfections
works for all stone surfaces
other than that WD40 , sprayed liberally and rubbed with a soft cloth will hide and scratches

So apart from the scratch the side you place down on the mortar that side looks like the finished article and was the look I was after similar to the sandstone sawn and honed finish but alas rough side up it is at least no Agro sending back etc.But why go to all the trouble of a perfect flat smooth finish if going to be hidden?
