i m having a re-roof on my bungalow - new tiles, buttons and felt. The roofer has basically said I can have what I want, either a wet verge or dry verge. He recommends dry because it s no maintenance but ideally I suppose I like the look of a wet verge.

I ve never been in a property long enough to worry about it crumbling and being redone so what s the general consensus? Wet or dry

Personal preference - he's right though a dry verge is maintenance free.

Personally I prefer a mortared verge as its a more traditional lokk - if you go that route use a 1:3 with sharp/concreting sand and some fibres in the mix for added longevity

Given the hassle and cost of getting scaffolding put up to do any repairs surely dry is a no brainer unless you really really like the look of wet?

This is the issue. Prefer the look of mortar but understand the benefit of dry - heart v head.

I guess I’ll end up going dry for an easy life but it’s not being done for a while so plenty of time to vacillate smile

Objectively it’s hard to argue against a dry verge but a wet verge doe look more traditional. If you opt for dry, have a look at a continuous dry verge, they look a bit less clunky than individual ones.
As an alternative to traditional sand and cement, ask your roofer about ‘Flexim roof putty’, he may be a fan…or not.

What about a cloaked verge?

Cloaked verge tiles that have a down stand to one side so do away with both of the other options.

Thanks both of you - I’ll look into those options.
