We have a shower cubicle in thbathroom, and it is started leaking. Investigation showed that the grout was cracked in places. Having now removed the grout 3 of the tiles have fallen off!

It appears that behind them was a mesh with some bck flexible stuff painted on to it. It doesn't appear to be under all the tiles so I wonder if there has been a previous problem and this black stuff is a waterproof sealant to stick to the plasterboard and then stick the tiles to it. Does this seem likely?

And should I know remove all the tiles and start again?

I'll let an expert answer this one, but the mesh sounds like a waterproof board, eg Knauf.

I replaced my tiles with marbrex - very happy with it and easy to keep clean. Its made from plastic with a tongue and groove edge. You stick it too the wall with silcone sealant.
