Distance from dining table to wall

Just wondering what the concensus was regarding distance between a dining table and a wall. I'm in the market for a new dining set, and the one I'm interested in (and in the desired position in my lounge diner) would leave about 18-20 inches - potentially a little cosy, but I'd have thought it was do-able as long as I sat my more 'cuddly' friends on the other side!

A Google search has suggested 32-36 inches (on the non-serving side) which seems far too much.

Apologise for the w*nky question, but could I request some of you who also don't live in mansions to let me know your measurements?

wouldn't want anything less than 26 inches, and I'm a scrawny bloke.

Did look at those, but the main issue is width, not length. I'm thinking that I may have to compromise and get a 70/80cm one instead of 100cm. Or just make friends with more skinny people...

As a rule. we suggest a minimum of 2'. ideally 3', otherwise you will always be compromised.

And, in regards to proportion, I would say at 6'. 3' wide is correct. Our 9' tables we make at 3'3" wide.
