I have just had a conservatory built, it is 6m x 6m internal size with a glass roof and I am looking for 2 electric panel heaters to heat it.
So far I have found radiant heaters like this:-
http://www.conservatoryheating.com/acatalog/sunbur...

and convection heaters like this:-
http://www.dealec.co.uk/acatalog/why_buy_beha_heat...

Does anybody have any experience of these as I am wondering which is better in terms of performance and running cost?
Thanks
Robert.

The top one on your list looks a nicer design. I've tried convection heaters and not found them that good (similar to the second one) - also oil filled rads are useful too.

I've put an air con unit in ours that also runs as a heater. We use it more for heating in the winter, than cooling, but it means we can use it all year round.

It's the best £800 I've spent on anything, ever.

I had a radiator plumbed in to ours. Makes it usable in the winter.

Undertile heating.

Costs very little to run, heats from the floor up which is more effective, and as ceramic is a bloody good insulator, it stays warm long after the heat is turned off

Thanks for all the replies.
I was advised that due to the size of the conservatory, radiators and underfloor heating would not be very effective(the floor is down so both are out of the question), so I am going down the electric route.
I have looked at the air-con/heater units but am put off by the price(not ruled out though), I am erring toward the radiant heaters but have some concerns over possible fire risk if furniture got too close.
Has anybody got personal experience of them?

Bad advice I'm afraid. The most efficient way of heating the space would have been by extending your existing heating system into the conservatory.

That is one big space, hard to calculate the BTU's required but I would guess around the 20,000+ mark.

Do you intend to use the space all year round as an ordinary room in your house?

At my last house we built an orangery which housed the kitchen and a seating area. As such it was came under building regulations and had to be insulated as such. The room was about 9m x 4m with 3 sets of french windows and a glass lantern roof about 2m x 7m.

I had 3 rads in there (total of about 10,000 BTU's) and electric underfloor heating. On especially cold days it could still occasionally feel chilly in there.

We would hope to use it most of the year but it is separated from the rest of the house by double doors so if it was particularly cold in the winter we could close it off.
It has a double-glazed glass roof which has a special coating to reflect heat outwards in the Summer and inwards in the winter, it will be interesting to see how effective it is.
I think 2x2kw heaters should be enough.
