Do you prefer the minimalist style? The homely style? Mine's not very child friendly. Sharp edges everywhere and small things toddlers could choke on (all the nice pebbles that used to exist on Brighton beach hehe ). Cream and caramel coloured walls, mocha sofa, green and brown scatter cushions and a few candles. Plus a couple of small bookcases.

My folks have gone for the minimalist look at home:

Few more things in there now (such as curtains!) as it had just been redecorated when those pics were taken. But, it's still pretty minimalist.

I think that wasn't supposed to be any free area of the tv stand going...

That present under/beside the tree looks good.
I love big parcels, Santa must have delivered it to your house by mistake

Still stumped. What is the 'free area of the TV stand', and where is it going? But now you're saying that whatever they are, they're not supposed to be...

Ours is still a work in progress....

Started work on it when we moved in nearly two years ago! The end is in sight though - I've finished fitting the skirting boards, just going around filling the holes/doing the final prep ready for painting next weekend. Then the new carpet can be ordered!

Got to do all the woodwork in the kitchen, lounge, up the stairs and the landing!

Since had a new door with glass panels fitted between the kitchen and lounge.

Home made AV rack:

All the cabling runs through the wall and along to under the stairs, rear surround cables are run through the ceiling and there are two speakers in the kitchen ceiling also running from the amp.

This is what it looked like when we first moved in:

Skirting boards are a real pain and very boring to fit! zzz

Can't wait to get it finished - I reckon by the end of the month it should be done (although I am considering repainting all the walls.

'free area of tv stand'

and 'going' in context of 'any free space going'

maybe...

If I read it correctly his wife/partner likes to put ornaments on various window sills/shelves etc including any free space on the tv stand.

eg. Us blokes would shove a TV on a stand and that would be it... women are more likely to stick a vase on there as well

Turns out it was a fancy lamp...which is now to the left of the sofa and makes the room ever so slightly less minimalist.

I could fit an upright but I refuse to; when I can afford a house big enough to have a music room, I'll get a baby grand.

Sadly I can't play at all, but my mum's been playing for years now and has become quite good. So no need to worry - it does get used all the time!

Cool. The only thing that would bother me is that if someone wanted to watch TV when your mum's practising, you have a problem.

Good point; come to think of it, that's the only TV with a DVD player. Luckily she tends to practice in the daytime, when there's sweet FA on television worth watching. Anyway, it's easier for us to go and watch TV in another room than it is for her to move the piano...I suppose.scratchchin
