I'm thinking of buying a new Ride-On. It will be used to cut grass of about half an acre. Does anyone have experince of any or suggestions? Don't really want to spend much more than £2K.

Thanks.

Lightly-used Countax (newer ones are mostly Honda-engined) or Westwood (Briggs and Stratton). Both the same british company now I think.
They've got brushes in the grass collector to sweep up the cuttings, so can cope with damp grass much better than most. Power take off on the back can run a chipper, you can even get a snow plough for them smile They have cupholders too biggrin
Try ebay - this looks a good 'un here but a bit big for half an acre.
Older and smaller is this - looks clean and tidy.
Hydrostatic gearboxes can go, effectively scrapping the whole mower, other than that, they're pretty solid.
Or :chews tobbacco and spits: nuthin runs like a Deere.

I had 2 acres of paddock when I lived in Norfolk & used a Westwood 36 inch cut with a B & S 11HP. The paddock used to take around 2-3 hours with it. The Westie is OK but a bit agricultural, it used to break regularly but is easy & relatively cheap to fix. Mine was totally abused, towing a biggish trailer & used to use it to tow a 15ft caravan off the road & into our drive as it was too tight with a car. It also was used every 2-3 weeks to mow our rough old model aircraft flying field.

My 2p’s worth. We have a similar size lawn 1 acre but cut ¼ of an acre ( small bits / edges) with a hayter 56 due to size.

Originally I had a cheap Lawnflite with grass collector, it was pretty good but was a pain to empty every 10 mins and then we had a huge grass mound to shift at the end of the year.

So last year we bought a simplicity with mulching deck 40inch cut and 16 hp from memory. It has been fantastic and has cut down the cutting time drastically and there is no grass mound well worth looking at.

It cuts the grass twice so you don’t see any of the grass after it has been cut as the roller pushes it into the base of the lawn.
