So you're about to move into your first ever 1 bedroom flat. The place is completely empty. What are the first things you buy?

Are you a politican moving into your second home? I'd suggest an £8,000 Bang and Olufsen TV.

Speaking from experience of not more than 10months ago...

  • Oven
  • Fridge
  • Large TV
  • PSIII
  • Sofa
  • Bed
... in that order! With a 3month gap between the first and last item wink

Think about your immediate needs: food and water, natural requirements like need to wash and evacuate yourself. biggrin

You don't really need a couch to hastily I don't reckon just get a seat.

But then Couch, coffee table, internet etc.

Kettle, mugs, milk, teabags - mug of tea on moving in.

Then do a little measuring and off to Ikea for sofa, bed and storage (bookshelves, wardrobe or whatever), dropping into Richer Sounds for a TV on the way back. White goods such as fridge, washing machine, cooker help too wink

Ikea do a starter box (which I have renamed the 'the bh started shagging her running partner so I had to leave the house and now have no plates pack')

Comes with plates, cups, glasses, knifes, forks, pots, pans etc.

Don't buy anything without first asking family / friends / colleagues if they've got anything they were planning to throw out.

Sounds like a marketing opportunity to me - "Visit IKEA today and view our new SWT range of basic home essentials you can take home today to your empty flat. 10% discount for cynical PH users"

Beer
TV
Sofa
X box, PS 3.

Sorted.

Been in my place coming up two years, still no curtains up in some of the rooms, almost all bear bulb light fixings to, no doors on wardrobes, but we had SKY, TV and Xbox set up within about two days.
