Revamping my bbq
Discussion
I've got one of these:

It's a few years old but is a fantastic bbq. Or at least it was before we failed to clean it after use and it started rusting.
The main black part that holds the charcoal is being painted with Hammerite BBQ Paint, that's fine, but I'm unsure what I can do to the grill. It's definitely not chrome plated or anything, has always been a matt finish, and now looks a bit ropey with some surface rust and general muck
Apart from cleaning it with detergent and burning the crap off, is there a new finish I can put on it that will withstand the heat and be ok for putting food on?
Not sure about using the same matt black bbq paint for the grill itself as I'm using on the bowl part?

I've got one of these as well, and as you say, it's a great bbq.
TBH, I've not let the surface rust bother me, just rub both the grill and the pit/bowl down with a stiff brush to get the worst off, and brush a little oil on it when not in use.
In season, as we bbq frequently, I tend just to let any residue burn off and add taste!
It does have a cover to keep the worst of the weather out, and it's been standing outside for a good few years now.
