Random question but been bugging me! We have a wildlife pond in our garden, about 15 feet across with no pumps, filters ect. Or fish. Just kept clear by oxegenating plants, nothing else. Naturally, nature has put lots of life in there over the 5 years, the largest being a colony of "Singing Frogs" with bright green stripes down there backs (no idea their proper Latin name). But last week while cleaning the weed off the top, we noticed what looked like fish in there along with the dozens of Newts that have moved in! The "fish" look like Newts in their colouring, but have massive round heads and a body and fins almost like a little eel, about 3" long. Very strange, but my daughter is asking questions to what they are and i have no idea. With that little information does anyone know what they might be??? Or are they a newt with no arms or legs???? (does not seem a fun existence to me)

I think newts go through a metamorphis stage similar to tadpoles-frogs. Your "fish" could possibly be newts in a premetamophic stage?

As its your little girl that is asking, just make something up smile

If your girl is that young she will believe anything her parents tell her

They are already twice the size of the newts! Will scour a few books. They look quite scary actually.
