Would lead flashing have any effect on the water if it was installed over the top of a liner, just to hide the edge from being on show.

Depending on where you live do you think it would be there long enough to cause a problem with the water?

Can you not just use some slate or similar to produce the same effect? smile

Could use another product, but it depends which one, want it to look nice, slate might be possible.
The affect on the water was my initial worry.

I would think the lead will leach into the pond and poison it. You can get some stuff which is like tar impregnated roofing felt which has gravel adhered to one surface. Much nicer looking than lead flashing surely?

I don't see it being a problem. The rate of contamination would depend on the surface area of lead in contact with the water, and if the flashing was barely touching the water around the edges I think it would be completely negligible. Even if you completely lined the pool with lead I suspect it would only be a problem if you planned to drink from it, or keep fish in it.

(I don't think lead flashing would look very attractive, but that's another issue.)

Have you thought of copper, nicer looking and less toxic!

Always up for alternatives, have been trying to research bentonite clay liners, they seem to be very good, but unable to find out prices etc. to compare.

Most fish aren't affected by lead, most plant stores will sell you 'flexible' lead plant tie weights for fish tanks.

What will the surface finish be? On both the ponds in my garden I finished the top-dressing of the ponds with paving overlapping by an inch or two. Never noticed the liner - it also prevented UV damage to the liner.

no issue with lead in water and it shouldnt cause any issue to fish either ... pretty expensive stuff at the moment though
