Furniture Advice please!

I'm furnishing a living room from scratch, but it's proving incredibly difficult and frustrating to find suitable furniture.

Firstly, I want my furniture to match (i.e the same wood and in a similar style). Seeing as I'm starting with a clean sheet of paper, this seems sensible to me. This is what I'm after:

• Flatscreen TV cabinet. Slim (about the depth of a DVD player) with room for: HDD/DVD, Blu-Ray player, Hi-fi Amp, CD Player and Sky Box. I'd like another slot so I can buy a radio tuner for my hi-fi in the future too. I'd also like room for a surround decoder/amp in the future. In other words, I'm after six slots.

• Bookcase

• CD Bookcase to store around 400-500 CDs.

What's proving annoying is that almost no-one out there seems to sell CD bookcases. I called a few furniture stores and was told that everyone listens to MP3 nowadays The other thing that's proving difficult is that TV cabinets appear to still be made deep enough for CRT TVs, and if I do that it'll limit space in an already quite small room. I realise plenty of people still have a CRT, but what do people put their flatscreens on?! Also, virtually all of these units have two slots for DVD player, Sky box etc and then take up all the rest of the space with storage for 5 or 6 DVDs (eh?!) or two doors (presumably so you can store plates in them; very useful that!).

Any ideas and suggestions? My budget's around a grand or so for all three pieces, but I don't mind spending more if I can get what I want. So far the only stuff I've seen that I like is by Tom Schneider, but that's incredibly expensive!

You could try looking for a local cabinet maker. Although a grand is a bit tight, in these hard times you should be able to get something simple and modern in a veneered board of your choice.

(i could do all three at a push for around a grand but am based in Manchester )

Not what you want but hinge the TV onto the wall (or even into the floor!)
