Roof boxes at council tips...
Discussion
These rules have proliferated because of traders taking the piss and trying to get a free tip for their commercial/industrial waste at the expense of the council tax payer. It's unfortunate for the majority of genuine householders, but sadly necessary. Check with your local council before travelling to see what their restrictions are.

Wholey agree with that.If you're producing enough waste to need additional load space attached to your car then I think you need a skip, not a council tip.

Rubbish (See what i did there...did ya...).As a council tax paying member of the public you shuld be able to dump whatever you require at the local tip. Just because there's a lot of it doesn't mean your rights are suddenly void.
I had to do 3 runs recently with all the conifers I cut down. Must have cost me £5 in Diesel. A Skip would have been a darn site more. And if I'd had a trailer I could have done it in one go. I fail to see why that means I should rent a skip.

True, but the underlying reason is the EU Landfill Tax which makes trade waste needlessly expensive to dispose of.Munter said:

I'll clarrify my point a bit further. If you're doing building work and producing enough waste to need to add a trailer or a roof box to your car to transport the waste to the tip and need to do multiple trips then - imo - you're better off with a skip / grab bag / low loader which are certainly cheaper than two hours of my time / transport costs.
Secondly, I wouldn't take garden waste to the local tip as I would 'reuse' it either in the compost or the fire.

I cut down two Budlejja that had got totally out of control. Took me six trips, filling my VW camper van up each time.
Fortunately the tip is 3 minutes drive away and they no longer have a height restriction. Would I have rather paid for several skips or other means of someone else doing it? Not really.
They did get a bit funny about me bringing a whole Hillman Imp bodyshell down there a few panels at a time over the course of a weekend though

Where do you get that I don't like driving???? Although, s&m tendancies aside, I can't quite see the fun in driving a diesel stuffed full of foliage for 30-odd miles.
My free time is for fun not building maintenance.

I haven't assumed anything. I based that upon you stating that you used £5 of diesel. You have a Vectra so 30-miles would seem a fair distance to have covered over three trips. Unless of course you like to leave the engine running whilst you faff on.
I didn't say YOUR time was worth £100 an hour.
You used £5 of diesel in half an hour whilst not driving, now that is funny. Not to mention 'driving pleasure' tips coming from a Vectra owner.

....thats an assumption right there. Not to mention you assumed I'd put any thought into my £5 comment. Even massiveloy overestimation and coming up with £5 the point is it's at least 10x cheaper to move rubbish myself than get a skip even if I do need extra capacity so do a few runs (Something "additional load space" would negate the need for BTW). Unless of course you assume people lots of people value their free time at silly numbers ~ £100 an hour.Munter said:

I haven't assumed anything. But delete the next bit that this relates to it just to make a point that's not there and enhance you IB...

Why state a figure if it isn't even vaguely correct????
I'm bemussed at your last sentence but I won't make any specific comment about it because you haven't qualified [adequately enough against the standards you appear to expect from others] what you consider to be 'silly numbers'.
You think building maintenance is a good use of your free time. My free time is for recreation.
I reitterate. If I have a load of building waste that neccessitated multiple trips to the local tip and the need to fit a trailer or roof box to my car to do it then it would be cheaper for me to pay the cash for a skip than to spend my time in running backwards and forwards to the tip during what should be my free time. If you don't, we'll that's your choice.
I had two skips last year when we had our garden/patio done. It cost £150 per skip from what I remember and may have gone up more now. My missus put the lighter, drier stuff in her car and did a few trips to the tip during the job which saved us getting another skip, which we figured was worth the hassle (the garden was costing enough as it was
). If we'd had a trailer I wouldn't have had any issue about using it as it was garden waste (rather than the old concrete slabs, etc) that went in her car....I recycle enough of my waste and pay a fortune in council tax so I don't see why I shouldn't take 'project' waste to my tip.

I've been in before with a pick up and twin axled trailer, they did say I couldn't come in, but I explained to them it was all domestic rubbish from my house, as you could easily tell it was and they made a phone call and I got the go ahead, they even got their JCB out and let me chuck it straight in the bucket!
