I,ve now had 2 unsuccessful attempts to lay some grass seed, well actually Lawn restorer seed with no success.

I raked out the moss,
Brushed in some top soil,
Wet the soil with a fine sprinkle of water,
Sprinkled the seed on top,
I have watered the seed regularly to keep it moist-ish,
BUT NOTHING IS HAPPENING, The seed just lies their looking at me!!.

Am I doing something wrong? Any advice would be gratefull.

Trying too hard?

We layed some on some bare ground a few months back, just chucked it on by hand, bit of a water, and bob's you're uncle.

Obviously not helpful, but we certainly didn't do anything special. Maybe the seed is duff?

I always lightly rake a covering of soil / compost over the seeds after putting them down.

1. Just get normal grass seed.
2. Make sure area is free from weeds/moss.
3. rake area to ensure good bed.
4. water area well to make sure it very damp (not just surface)
5. Spread grass seed.
6. cover in compost so seed cant be seen.
7. put down slug pellets (they love fresh grass shoots)
8. dont water for a few days as the compost will keep moisture in.
9. when shoots appear start watering again. (should get shoots this time of year in about 4-5 days.
10. Dont mow until shoots are at least 3 inches and then only lightly.

Sit back and enjoy.

The only way I've found to make it work (after many failed attempts) is to mix the seed up with some compost or something, and then scatter that and lightly walk it in. Then a bit of watering.

Careful with slug pellets if you have animals in the garden - produces nasty fitting if they eat pellets in any quantity.

Except slugs of course which they kill.

Try this stuff:

(think you can get it at 'Argos')

Seems to be the 'Chuck Norris' of grass seed...
