Noticed a few flying around and seen some lave. Just had a closer look and found several badly moth eaten patches of carpet - it's not that old either furious - in corners and hidden under furniture.

Not much advice on 't net - any suggestions?

Never had the problem myself so no real experience but, there's some information on getting rid of moths/larvae Here.

We had em, woolie buggers they are called in the trade, we had to change the carpet to a nylon blend and that was about 4 years ago now, they can't live on plastic. hehe

It appears that even if you think you've got rid the eggs can lay dormant for some considerable time, and start munching again when they feel the need.

Search for Woolly Bears. I had them in an old flat, they love woollen carpets. I ended up replacing the carpet! Don't let moths into your house!

You can get a spray from carpet/rug dealers and Tapistraps (IIRC) which are designed to attract and kill the males so they can't breed. It's a complete bugger to get rid of them though.

I am in rented accommodation and have had these pesky moths eating the carpet in the downstairs WC for the last few weeks. Didn't know where they were coming from at first and then lifted up an extra piece of carpet in the corner and there they were. Got out the Vanish foam and sprayed the area hoping to kill the blighters and chucked the extra piece of carpet away. Didn't have any for a few days and now, have had 2 in the last couple of days. Am moving out next week so the next tenants can deal with them.

Its probably carpet bettles rather than moths, and they are a right pain to get rid off!

Basically need to hoover well and everywhere regularly, including under the bed, cupboards alongside skirting boards etc.

You haven't got moths; it's an infestation of lesbians. Check your cupboards for dungarees.

If you can still buy RidFlea Home Spray, that also works very well on carpet beetle larvae - for up to 8 months.

In fact anything that contains insect growth regulator will work - it mimics a growth hormone that larvae need whilst growing, but what would normally stop producing when they need to shed their skin to turn into adults. With this lingering on the carpet they turn into sterile "supernuminary larvae" so the life cycle gets broken.

Excellent use of 'scoffing'. Haven't seen that since I read the Beano!
