I've re-done some concrete steps outside the front of my house (made 2 big steps into 3 smaller ones) and now I'm looking to paint them black, in keeping with the colour scheme on the rest of the house front. I tried to stain the concrete but it just looks a dodgy grey colour.

I need something like garage floor paint but most paints I have seen have been gloss, or not available in black. Does anyone have a link to, or information on some matt black paint which would be suitable for external concrete?

I'd really appreciate any help.

Sarah

Thanks for the link but it says "Usually sprayed 30 - 60 minutes at 170-200°C (340-390°F)" - It's been hot lately but I think that might not be achievable on my front steps!!

Wait for a hot day!

What you'll need is an epoxy based paint. These are the tough ones for painting on floors

Try Leyland Paints in Albert Road, St. Philips (near the dogs home), also Crown Paints behind Lidl/old Post Office on Fishponds Road, Winterstoke Decorators Supply, W-S-Mare (they will deliver). You of course have B&Q trade centres at either Hanham, Hartcliffe or Cribbs Causeway, with of course Wicks Trade Centre at Hanham.

Lastly, Stax Trade Centre at Brentry, these will be the cheapest, if they have stock that is, and if you have not got access to them, then let me know and I will pick the item up for you.

Matt black floor paint will soon look like a scruffy old dusty chalkboard. Every footstep will show, every dust particle will stick out like dogs bks.

I failed to mention Blackfriars Paints & Varnish Ltd., who are based at Nailsea, which is not too far from you/us;

Cheers for the help guys, much appreciated.

King H - I have thought about that but not sure what else I can really do with it. It looks rubbish with it as it is, but I know it will be a nightmare to keep clean. Any alternative suggestions!?

Unfortunately the step is curved around the front so I'm not sure that would work very well.

I've created a monster...!!!

Can you paint the step uprights in black and then fix "checkerplate" to the top of each step.

That will give you the black look you are after and something to walk on that won't get dirty too easily.

Checkerplate should be nice and hardwearing and easy to cut to shape

I used gloss black on my garage floor concrete - it looks great and really keeps the dust down but it lost the 'gloss' within a couple of weeks... and now looks more like matt anyway - so perhaps you could try that.
