As you may have guessed we're about to embark on a large extension project...

As a complete newcomer to this I've found a couple of the threads really helpful but then some of the points get lost in sub discussions...

Would it be worth some of the more knowledgable members & associated professions putting together a wiki... a kind of step by step, how to, pitfalls etc guide for building projects? With sections such as:

  • Before you start
  • Preparation
  • Plans & drawings
  • Surveyors
  • Architects
  • Regulations
  • Builders
  • Pitfalls
  • Links & recommendations
  • etc etc etc
Just a thought - I can't help I'm afraid as I know nowt and I'm a girl but I did do an extensive comedy wiki so I guess I'm 'in credit'.

Thoughts?

We do a brochure for the Self Build market which pretty much explains all this in easy to follow steps. PM me and I'll send you one.

I will do - thank you - but I'd still think it would be useful here to pool knowldege and contacts for everyone as a resource wiki.

The problem is that to list solutions for all that would take so long and fill so many pages people wouldn't bother to read it (see thread on keeping paved area clear) and keep posting the same questions over and over again.

TBH, the best way would be to use the search facility on here, then, if you can't find the answer, to post a specific post stating the problem, and if possible, the area you are in.

There are people on here like me that have expertise that we will freely pass on or point you in the right direction, but we do need to know what help to offer.
