Simple question really, what is the best method or product to remove glue/adhesive from a solid pine floor?

The previous owners used a black looking adhesive to stick down linoleum and it is very hard to remove.

Sounds like a lot of hard work will be involved. Perhaps something like this would help.
Or, try something like white-spirit to try and soften it up first.

ETA: It might be worth trying an hot-air gun on it, but would make sure of good ventilation in case of fumes.

Add in a stupidly hot powerfull hairdryer, as heat should help soften the glue as well.

I've removed adhesive with WD40 before on tellies in the shop, but you may want to try it on something first!

Dampen a cloth with petrol should do the trick, but wipe away before drying, also "wonder wipes" are brilliant at removing all sorts, including silicone very effectivly.

I have done exactly these two things to a kitchen floor that had wretched vinyl tiles stuck to it in order to remove the tiles and their gluey residue. Worked a treat, but was time consuming and labour intensive.
