The annual heating thread
Discussion
Hello middle age...
I look at meter readings. A lot. I’m sure it’s not healthy, but it’s my dirty secret.
As a result I monitor the consumption of gas and electricity, primarily because I’m tight and don’t like giving money away.
With this in mind, what’s the optimum way to use the central heating in the house..?
Typically we leave at stupid o’clock in the morning and come back relatively late Monday to Friday (fully burglar alarmed up if anyone has any ideas, and our neighbours are retired and bored, so would talk to you
) and we’re around on weekends. We have excessive amounts of loft insulation, as well as cavity wall insulation and double glazing.
So… given we want to be warm, yet frugal, do we:
a) put the thermostat on a low, but constant temp all the time
b) we give it a blast up to tropical temps when we’re in the house
c) one of the above, but only have the radiators on in certain rooms
Suggestions on a postcard to the usual address…
TIA
