Hello middle age... paperbag

I look at meter readings. A lot. I’m sure it’s not healthy, but it’s my dirty secret. hehe As a result I monitor the consumption of gas and electricity, primarily because I’m tight and don’t like giving money away.

With this in mind, what’s the optimum way to use the central heating in the house..?

Typically we leave at stupid o’clock in the morning and come back relatively late Monday to Friday (fully burglar alarmed up if anyone has any ideas, and our neighbours are retired and bored, so would talk to you hehe ) and we’re around on weekends. We have excessive amounts of loft insulation, as well as cavity wall insulation and double glazing.

So… given we want to be warm, yet frugal, do we:

a) put the thermostat on a low, but constant temp all the time
b) we give it a blast up to tropical temps when we’re in the house
c) one of the above, but only have the radiators on in certain rooms

Suggestions on a postcard to the usual address…

TIA smile

Ah, the annual what temp is best thread. smile Well, I have mine set at around 16 degrees throughout the cold period. Give it a blast as and when needed but, am more likely to don a jumper than turn the temperature up. Another tight s*d here. wink
