i need to fit a new stair rail up one flight of stairs. the house had been subdivided into falts and not i've taken the stud wall out am left with the original staircase but not ballustres/hand rail.

i am considering having a go myself but am not sure how to fix the bottom newel post as there is nothing to secure it to. there is no trace at all of the old post and the floor has had a recent concrete pour.

any ideas?

Can you bolt it to the side of the stringer at all and halve it in?

Or cut a mortice in the base and fit over the stringer at all? pictures would help.

there is no string, the ballustres will be going straight into the treads.

i'll take a picture tonight then and post up tomorrow. i'll prob have a few other questions about the top winder so would be easier to show you what i mean.

One of these, and fit the newel post over it somehow?

Pop into Wickes and have a look at there staircase range. They have concealed fixings for newel posts that I have used previously. They are designed to be screwed into a joist or similar but I'm sure they would work with a resin fixing into concrete just as well.

i was going to suggest threaded rod into resin to anchor in to the floor, too. Beaten to it!
