Anyone have any recommendations for a reasonable price? It's about time i purchased my own.

Halfords are currently doing an offer on a car lifting kit but i'm somewhat sceptical as to if the stuff will last? (buy cheap you buy twice mentality)

The Halfords stuff tends to be OK. That set you linked to looks fine, but there will be plenty of others around at a similar price. That crawler will be a bit of a pita to store if you're only going to use it occasionally though.

Would be using it in single figures every year in all likely hood, or at least not much more, but want something that will last.

Well quite - you could get 10 machine mart sets of gear for the price of the snap on!

Slight exageration there lol, i will minus your ten sets and give you 2 sets

Jack £91.98 inc vat

Stands £19.54 inc vat

So its about half the snap on price, if it was me for the extra id go for the snap on as ive got them and love them but these prob do the same job just as well for half the money.

Another thing id get is a length of roll cage padding for the handle saves it ever damaging the car etc ( the snap on one comes with this )

I got a the Halfords kit a couple of years ago and has lasted me well. Gets used every two or three months and hasn't broken yet (Touch Wood).

Cheers for all the info, will probably end up going with the screwfix kit given the usage it's going to see. Heard good reports from another source as well.

Halfords stuff is fine. I have had some like that for the last 12 years, used by an enthusiastic amateur, and nothing has gone wrong.

A lot of the jacks from different maufacturers are the same design and probably made in the same factory; just painted a different colour with a different brand sticker on.
