Me and my girlfriend have just bought our first place together, exciting times, lots to do!

One of today's tasks is getting the washing machine in. I'm hoping it's as simple as it seems on first inspection: screw hoses to water supply, push fit outlet hose to drainage pipe, plug in, done.

Question is this: is the press fit enough for the outlet? I ask because there's a jubilee clip in the box, but no mention of what it's for. So, to clip or not? Over to you PH.

This must be the Lucky-dip thread smile with no title.

Oh, and use the clip on the waste pipe.

Not sure how I managed to omit the title, I'm sure I put one in!

Thanks for the quick reply, appreciated smile

I'll go for the 'leave the jubilee clip in the box' option, and I'll see you here tomorrow for the 'washing machine flooded kitchen thread' followed by 'how to dry laminate flooring out' and 'resetting the fusebox'.

I'd also leave the machine out in the open the first time you use it so you can make sure there's nothing leaking.

Don't forget to take any stabilisers out of the machine before using it. And yes, use the clip!

My first place was a first floor apartment which came turnkey with all appliances. I put the washing machine on before heading away for the weekend. Came back on Sunday night to find the front door off the hinges and a letter from the fire brigade.

Turned out that when the builder fitted the washing machine they never plumbed the waste, which duely flooded into the apartment below...

So, moral is - run a test wash before putting the machine away!

The Jubilee clip is probably for if the drain pipe connects to the sink drain with a press fit. If you have the traditional washing machine waste pipe (hose goes down a tall waste pipe with a U-bend at the bottom) it's not needed - just shove the hose down the pipe far enough that it won't dislodge. If you have the press fit arrangement, use the clip

Cheers all, machine has been connected and checked for leaks without mishap. Sorted.
