gluing cement board to brick

I am about to line a fireplace opening with cement board. What do I use to stick the board to the bricks? Also, what do I use to fill gaps at the corner joints?

A wood stove is going in the space so lots of heat will be hitting the boards.

It might be called fireclay or something, it's pretty similar to mortar or your dot and dab board adhesive, but heat proof.

What ever you get, make sure it's the fireplace stuff so it won't get hot, and crack up, then let go.

We had a brick opening skimmed with a sort of fireproof render which worked quite well. It looks like a coarse cement finish and holds up very well to the heat kicked out by a woodburner at a range of about 3in.

I'll try to figure out the manufacturer if you're considering options.

And it's the most hideous stuff to work with. Both the backing coat and finish.

The render has a consistency of screed and the 'plaster' is stickier than honey.

Finish was crap but hey it didn't crack.

Fair enough. Given I was paying someone else to sort it, I wasn't fussed as to how nasty it was to work with. The finish on ours is even and has the texture of coarse sandpaper. And it hasn't cracked at all either.
