Aside from suggesting an airlock, the obvious question is whether the valves either side of the pump are both fully open..

Any chance that the cold feed pipe (from the tank in the loft) could be blocked where it tees into the heating system ? Could be a possibility if the system has had a load of crap floating around.

Why was the pump replaced in the first place ?

Some pumps are better than others...sounds like you got air lock in pump and pipework....dependant om ther pump there may be a screw on the face which be turned anticlockwise to help vent it...thats why the pump gets hot yet rads /system cold....as for the x400..it`s not a long term solution...it will help lift some of the crap from the pipe n rads but will need flushing out....proper way is to powerflush the whole sytem.....

i`m a heating engineer so know what i`m talking about..

ps what pump has been fitted?..
