I own my own house outright, but am looking to sell in March/April 2010.
Since I'm being made redundant in a few weeks time...and obviously will have time on my hands, what can I do apart from clear the clutter, paint the place, retile the bathroom ?

Clean or replace carpets/flooring.
Paint front door and fascias if timber.
Neutral paint throughout (possibly the same colour).
Clear garden, clean windows and frames, plant some bulbs in the garden ready for April/May.
Put the heating on, buy flowers, bake bread and make coffee.

Natural Calico is also good neutral colour that suits any room and is popular.

Paint all walls a natural colour. Clean up any woodwork and do the doorhandles as well, people notice dirty/unmatching door furniture, get the carpets cleaned. Clean all of the windows and window hangings, paint the sils.

Tidy up the garden, get rid of any weeds, trim the grass, a few friendly pot plants at the front door.

Make sure there is no rubbish. crap lying around that will give the impression of work being required on the house or the garden. (for example water marks where you've had old leaks etc)

Get rid of clutter and get rid of everything that would get in the way of people being able to 'picture' themselves in the house (for example a hug portrait of aunty betty in the lounge).

Keep it clean, tidy and uncluttered.

Thanks for the replies smile
Do you think it's worth shifting a load of my stuff to storage to de-clutter it even more....I have thousands of bottles of wine and other booze to shift.

Get someone round (whether a friend or a professional) to look at the place with buyers eyes. They may identify lots of stuff that you hadn't noticed.

clearing the wine will take a lot of time....unless I drink it. There's just thousands of bottles - would the punters really be put off if it was there?

Depends if it looks a mess, if its seriously cluttering a room / rooms or the entire house by the sound of it then yes.
