DFS Can I push for more!
Discussion
Hi all,
Went into DFS the other day, seen an item that I like it's a 2 and 3 seater. Was originally £2,300 quid. Came back into store as it was the wrong colour. Therefore was used for 16 weeks.
They have it on for £1,999. The guys said they'd do it for £1,800 if I pay outright. I still think that's rather expensive seeing that it was used for 4 months. However I can't be bothered to wait for a month for a new one.
Should I push for more off as I will be buying "cash"?
Cheers

To my mind that price for used furniture is outrageous. But I guess they sell it for what they can get, and people will be keen to get hold of something before Christmas.
Is the higher price with interest free credit? I did read somewhere that they can't offer a discount for cash if there's interest free credit on offer as discounting would mean that "interest free" wasn't really free!

Thanks dude... Well I doubt that they would accept that low an offer.
£2300 to £1800 is 21% - they have already offered it to you...Deva Link said:

As per Trading Standards, yes. Ironically this means that there's no advantage to paying cash, so you stick it on finance or credit and the merchant ends up having to pay commission.FWIW I have 4 DFS sofas in various rooms. They are almost as good as the Collins and Hayes, and John Lewis sofas that we have too and the DFS ones are a fraction of the price. I reckoned that at the end of my 4-year-tuppence-a-month interest free period I could throw them in the bin and start again and still be better off than with the other ones.
Having said all that choose carefully as the majority of their designs are truly hideous.

It's an odd place (converted stables) in North London but there's nowt wrong with the furniture they're selling.

However, I am not overly keen on paying 1,800 a for 2nd hand sofa which was used by a Croydon fatty!
I suppose the key thing is - can you tell it's ex-demo? If it's marked/saggy ect then I'd leave it, but if it looks as new, you'd never know - would you?I guess that if you really wanted that design then price wouldn't be a issue. If you're only buying something because it's cheap, then you don't want it that much, I'd say. The fact you're asking here about it means you're already unhappy about it, and so if you buy it, you will continue to have doubts.

I'm not overly fussed on the design. It was the most comfortable sofa I'd ever sat on thought.
You know what? I also thought the same when I sat on a reclining sofa in DFS!
So it comes down to what's most important, eg:
1) This is my sofa, it's really comfy
2) This is my sofa, doesn't it look cool
3) This is my sofa, it was really expensive.

From their website, they look like they have some nice stuff, however, their Website is terrible to navigate around.www.wharfside.co.uk
