I'm renovating a flat that I'm shortly going to sell - near good commuter linksin London, but not worth an awful lot and in a converted Victorian building.

I've got a gloss white kitchen with a matt black worktop but not a huge amount of natural light. I'm considering black metro tiles 30 or 40cm high for the splashback area and then either porcelain white or black tiles for the floor.

Metro tiles:

White porcelain:

Black porcelain:

I think the Metro tiles and black porcelain floor would look very smart and contemporary for the 20/early 30 somethings that are likely to be buying the flat. My only reservation is wehter it's too much of a style statement and my own tastes instead of going for soemthing more neutral.

Thoughts please :-)

It looks like a skating rink when wet...

It's a very masculine kitchen; and assuming you're selling to a couple, the woman usually gets final say on the kitchen. I'd soften it up a bit if possible, get some colour in there.

Hey folks - thanks for the advice. Spoke to my girlfriend last night and her comments were exactly what you've said - that it looks very masculine, she'd be concerned about cleaning the floors and that the black Metro tiles are not going to attract women. On reflection, I'm now thinking (and going to go for) the same Metro tiles in glossy white and a darkish matt slate look floor.

Cheers :-)
