Noticed a dramatic increase in the number of cold calls from alternative service providers, who dont seem to have any details.

along the lines of...

Caller: "Please can you confirm your name"
Me: "Yes its Mr xxxxx"
Caller: "Please can you confirm your address"
Me: "Yes its xxxxxx"
Caller: "Please can you confirm your mobile model"
Me: "...erm, no actually you tell me... I'm not giving any more info"
Caller: "Okay sorry to trouble you"

etc etc, seem to be fishing for info.

Received half a dozen calls in as many days, just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this, and what is going on?

Thanks in advance

Sean.

You give more information than I do.

Anyone who calls me and asks such questions gets politely told to put their question in writing.

If anyone I don't know phones me asking personal questions, I'll tell them I'm not interested and hang up.

Same here except they get told to Foxtrot Oscar.

OP - are you with T-Mobile by any chance? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8364421.stm

I'm with vodafone, the only data they seem to have is my number.

and Yes I wont be giving out ANY info for future calls, now that I'm seeing a pattern.

i'm with t-mobile and it can be fking annoying.

i always stop them short and tell them i've made a note of their company name, want them to remove me from their list and will report them if they call again. dramatic decrease in calls as a result, apart from 3 fking mobile who can't take the hint.

You heard the news about T-Mobile employees selling customer data for cash?

I'd take a bet you are on contract and it's nearly finished.

It happens every time with us,usually starts this is Vodaphone, can we interest you in xxxx.

If you get the number and contact Vodaphone they will tell you it's nothing to do with them, but it could be one of the many seperate people who sell Vodaphone among contract from other suppliers.

It seems obvious that Vodaphone sell their customer lists along with details about when contracts are about to run out.
