Does anyone have any ideas? We are needing to replace our stair carpet and i'm trying to guage what the fitting costs are likely to be.

A guy came and fitted one in our second bedroom - approx 3x4m - it was only the carpet, underlay and gripper rods were already down, and it was a simple shape.

Took two of them 20 minutes at the most - cost £30.

Guess the stairs are more complicated though.

Yes this will be just carpet too. The gripers and underlay have been down only for about 3 or 4 years.

I think I paid £60 to have the lounge/stairs and landing sorted.

That was new underlay, gripper rods and carpet.

So it sounds as though it shouldn't be too horrendous then.

If it's a straightforward job around £30/40, but if there are a couple of bends or right angles obviously a bit more.....

I don't think it will break the bank anyhow, but if your underlay is "tired" I would replace it for the sake of another few quid.

The underlay is only 3 years old, so I was leaving that alone. Unfortunately our Labrador has dug through the carpet which is the reason that needs replacing.

Good call. I'd try Animal Rescue for a tired old Yorkshire Terrier. They don't do a lot of digging and if the worst happens, and it does become incontinent, it's bladder only holds about a tablespoonful. Carpet should last ages

Do the fitting yourself, using the old carpet as a template/pattern for the new carpet, ensuring you have a box of 1" carpet tacks or wire nails, and that you get plenty of stretching of the carpet over and under the tread.
